Fifteen year old Sandra “Bitty” Murphy was born with a proximal shortening of her right femur which is the equivalent of having no thigh bone. Although she had a shin bone and right foot, they opted to amputate her leg above the knee in order to form a stable stump for a prosthetic leg. Her goal was to be able to join the track team for her high school as she loves to run! Along with Shriner’s hospital, we gifted Bitty a running prosthesis so she can fulfill her dream of running with no limits. After receiving her new blade, Bitty said, “Being able to actually run for the first time was beyond exciting! It has given me the opportunity to start competing in sports my sophomore year, and I can’t wait! I also wanted to say that watching Noelle compete in the Paralympics was encouraging and having her to look up to has been such a big inspiration!”
