Courtney Pabst was a Division 3 lacrosse player at Pace University when she went in for her second ACL surgery on her knee in 2018. During surgery, went into cardiac arrest causing complications with her heart and lungs, prompting her doctors to put her in a medically induced coma. These complications put her life at risk and resulted in Courtney and her family making the difficult decisions to amputate her right knee below the knee. Courtney returned to Pace in January 2019 but was unable to finish her senior year as a lacrosse player. She transitioned into working as a student coach for Pace’s Women’s Lacrosse team. Courtney graduated from Pace University in May 2019.
The Born to Run Foundation has gifted Courtney with a running blade so that she will be able to continue with her love of sports! According to Courtney, “With this running blade, I am able to return to my active lifestyle in a way I haven’t been able to since my amputation. This donation not only improves my physical ability to run, but improves my self-confidence and passion for exercising at a high level.”
